The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were the first recipients of a new police badge struck in support of the Help For Heroes charity. Norfolk Chief Constable Ian McPherson presented them with the badges during a recent visit to the annual Sandringham Flower Show.
Mr McPherson is hoping the initiative will enable the Police Service nationally to be seen to support men and women who return wounded from active service. The badge is suitable to be worn with police uniform and is the first official badge that has been produced for the Service. He said: “Police officers, staff, their families and friends should feel proud to wear this new badge on their uniforms. Along with many other people in this country, I fully support the aims of Help for Heroes as do many of my colleagues.” Bryn Parry, a former member of The Royal Green Jackets and founder of the charity, said: Since Help for Heroes was launched, many police officers and staff have been raising money and we are delighted with Norfolk Constabulary’s initiative to create a special badge for all police forces in the country to show their support.” Tim Hollis, Vice President of ACPO and Chief Constable of Humberside, added: “As a former Army officer myself I am delighted with the results of the work that have gone on behind the scenes to produce this badge. There are many ex-service men and women working in the British Police Service today and this is a simple but appropriate way in which we can offer support for our colleagues in the armed forces.”
The badges will sell at £3 each with all the proceeds going to Help For Heroes the charity which was launched in October 2007 by a group of friends and service relations to help the wounded coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq.
