Merseyside police officers, British Transport police, the National Trust and other partner agencies launched Operation Beachsafe on May 24. The operation takes place over four months and is aimed at keeping Sefton’s popular beaches safe this summer. Beachsafe will tackle antisocial behaviour and crime, by having police officers patrol the beaches and surrounding areas. Quad bikes and mounted officers, along with neighbourhood officers will be there to deal with specific issues such as drinking, violent behaviour, large groups of young people who may intimidate residents, and antisocial behaviour such as vandalism and littering. Officers will be looking out for young people who are putting themselves at risk by drinking at night, where there is the risk of drowning.
