West Yorkshire Police have joined forces with Yorkshire Ambulance Service in a new pilot scheme designed to reduce the resource impact of alcohol-related incidents on both blue-light services.
Emergency response vehicles attending to any alcohol-influenced injuries on a Friday or Saturday night in Bradford will contain both a paramedic and a neighbourhood policing officer.
Bradford City Inspector Kevin Pickles said: "By working together, we can quickly resolve incidents there and then which require the assistance of the police.
"Whilst we are dealing with any instances of anti-social behaviour, crime or disorder, the paramedic can safely enter the environment and provide early medical assessment and treatment to those who are injured.
Through this joint approach, we can have an instant impact and be quickly ready to respond to further calls."
The scheme, which started this weekend, will be employed across the whole of Yorkshire if it proves effective in improving public safety during a month-long pilot.
